Organized Dogfighting

Bait... the bait dog

Members Lori and Larry rescued him from where he had been dumped on Highway 57 in Priest River, Idaho. His multiple injuries... included a broken leg, mutilated jaw, many open wounds and frostbite... indicating that he had been a "bait dog" for dogfighters. The term "bait dog" refers to dogs that are too gentle to be used as fighters so are used as bait to train other dogs to agressively attack and kill.

We were certain that there was an organized dogfighting ring in Priest River.  Authorities would not believe it, but with some determined effort we believe we have managed to remove puppies from a dogfight  residence here in town.

This, unfortunately, at the time, was only a misdemeanor in Idaho. We were one of only two states where this cruel and inhuman sport was not a felony. We are proud to announce that as of February 25, 2008, organized dogfigting is now a felony in Idaho.

The good news is, Bait already has a wonderful new home and will never again be subjected to terror or abuse. He already knows he's found the love he deserved ... he was guest of honor at a bake sale on March 4, 2006... and we all had our faces washed by this loving and gentle soul.
