Donations

When Priest River Animal Rescue formed in March of 2002 we members had no idea what we were getting into. No idea how many lost, abandoned, and abused pets lived in our community. We soon found out, and we've been finding out more every day. That first year we took in and adopted out 54 cats and dogs. In 2003 we adopted out 127, and then...in 2004 we adopted 247. Last year in 2006 we took in 346 pets, and adopted out 302, the rest were returned to owner or exchenged with another shelter.

In addition, our policies have evolved so that now we don't let any pet leave our control until it is spayed or neutered. In 2004 we spent $25,943 on veterinary care alone. $18,756 came back to us through grants and adoption fees.

How Did We Manage the Rest?
Donations... of both time and money. Community support is what keeps Priest River Animal Rescue alive and well. Without the support of the community the work we do for the animals could not be done.

Veterinary care includes spay and neuter, immunizations, and occasional "repairs" on dogs  or cats who have been abused or neglected. Among other things, we've been able to repair gunshot wounds, set broken legs, and have even had legs amputated when that was the only alternative. Whatever the animal needs to be happy again is what we try to do. Sometimes it is VERY  expensive. Parvo is especially expensive. That's why we are always looking for donations for emergency funds for when someone walks off of the street with a dog just run over by a car, and no owner to be found.

Another thing our donated money goes for is our land fund. We hope to soon have our own property to build a new shelter. If you donate you can express your wish for which area you would like to see it used.

Another huge cost in the winter is for our shelter to be heated, this is an area we always need donations.

Also, don't forget our Thrift Store, Critters, we always need good items donated including clothing. And all of the money goes for our pets.

Your Entire Donation Goes to Help the Animals
We are able to use 100% of your donation for the benefit of the dogs and cats because all the work is done by volunteers. Donations in any amount DO make a difference. For instance:

    • $0.60 gives a puppy a chew bone
    • $0.85 feeds a 75# dog for a day
    • $6.00 provides a series of three immunizations for one puppy
    • $21.00 pays to neuter one cat
    • $47.00 pays to spay one dog
    • $600. buys a new kennel cage so we can foster one more dog
    •
We are a 501(c)3 Corporation, which means your donations are fully tax deductible.

Do You Have an Hour, a Month?

If you do, we could use your help! There are many jobs to be done for the animals... some you can even do from home. If you have as little as an hour a month you can make a difference. Of course we'd be estatic at a half dozen new volunteers who could spend an hour a day... or more! We'd also be thrilled to have a few new foster homes. Often it is difficult to find a place for a new dog coming in. Sometimes its impossible.
